The System for Award Management (SAM) is the government’s central database for all government contractors, and you cannot do business with the federal government without an active SAM account. Whether you wish to bid on FEMA contracts, DOD contracts or another government agency, SAM registration is required.

The United States Government purchases all of its goods and services from private companies, and these government contracting jobs are worth billions of dollars annually. There are contracts available for every size of business and throughout just about every industry imaginable. However, you cannot bid on any of these jobs without an active SAM registration. Additionally, there are several other reasons to consider completing your SAM registration, including:

    1. Registrants Gain Access to Grants & Federal Assistance

In addition to bidding on government contracts, SAM registration is necessary for entities applying for federal grants, loans, and other forms of financial assistance. It is a prerequisite for any organization looking to access a wide range of government resources and funding opportunities.

    2. SAM Registration Boosts Your Credibility & Visibility

Being registered in SAM increases a company’s visibility to a large number of potential government buyers and partners. It adds a level of credibility, as it involves a vetting process that includes verifying the entity’s performance history and financial stability.

Registration in SAM also ensures that businesses comply with federal regulations for conducting business with the government. It includes agreeing to comply with federal financial and accounting regulations, which can vary significantly from private sector practices.

    3. SAM Can Be Used as a Marketing Tool

A SAM profile can serve as a marketing tool, showcasing your business capabilities, size classification, and other pertinent details. Government agencies often use SAM to find vendors who meet specific contracting preferences, such as small businesses, minority-owned firms, or veteran-owned businesses.

    4. Registrants Gain Access to Exclusive Resources

Small business owners who are SAM registrants can access the Dynamic Small Business Search (DSBS) database, which is used by government buyers to find small business contractors for upcoming contracts. This can lead to more direct opportunities for small businesses.

For any entity looking to engage in business activities with the federal government, maintaining an active SAM registration is an essential step that opens up numerous opportunities and facilitates compliance and operational efficiency.

    Annual Renewal Is Required

SAM registration must be renewed annually, and we highly recommend completing your SAM renewal at least one month before your expiration date. In some cases, it can take the Federal Service Desk several weeks to approve your renewal.

If your registration expires before this renewal approval, you will not be able to bid on any government contracts. However, if your registration is active but federal procurement agents notice that your registration will expire soon, they will likely bypass your company. This is because federal agencies cannot do business with a company with an expired SAM registration, and they may be wary of companies with a quickly approaching expiration date.

    Why Hire Federal Contractor Registry?

While the government does not charge a SAM registration fee, many people choose to hire a third-party registration service. The SAM registration process can take 10 or more hours and can be extremely complicated and frustrating.

Your time is valuable, and hiring a SAM expert not only allows you to concentrate on crucial business tasks, but it also ensures that your registration is completed accurately and as quickly as possible.

At Federal Contractor Registry, we offer fast and 100% accurate and fast SAM registration services and SAM renewal services. The cost for our services includes several value-added items that many other registration services don’t provide, including:

    • We can help you procure the new SAM Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) – This is a new requirement. Previously, you were required to provide your DUNS number for registration, but this has been phased out and replaced with the UEI.
    • We can help with the SAM Notarized Letter requirement – This letter identifies your company’s Entity Administrator, the person who is authorized to make changes to your SAM account.
    • We can help with SBA Registration – We can identify set-aside programs (SDVOSB, WOSB, 8a Certification, HUBZone certification, etc.) that match your business
    • We can introduce Super 8a Contractors to other Federal Contractors in the FCR Network

NOTE: If you need to renew SAM registration, you will not need to acquire the Unique Entity ID (UEI) or UEI number as this was assigned automatically to any entity with an existing SAM registration. The notarized letter requirement is also only needed for a new entity registration.
